Research in the IsoLab at ÅÝܽ¶ÌÊÓƵ

Access our Facilities

The Physics Department has a diverse range of multi-million pound facilities and equipment for research and development. Through working with our business partnerships teams, organisations can access our facilities in a variety of ways, ranging from entirely commercial access to full collaborative research.

We have a huge array of facilities for research and development across our research areas, with more being added all the time.

For example, our state-of-the-art £4m class 100 and class 1000 cleanrooms are equipped with electron-beam and photolithography, deposition by thermal and electron-beam evaporation and sputtering, rapid thermal annealing, scanning electron microscopy and wire bonding.

These facilities are complemented by three molecular beam epitaxy machines, extensive structural characterisation facilities such as X-ray diffraction and (cross-sectional) scanning probe microscopy, as well as unique facilities for optical and electrical characterisation of materials and devices at temperatures ranging from close to absolute zero to 400 K.

All our facilities are supported by teams of experienced technicians and researchers.

We can also provide access to facilities in other departments across campus.

We have many leading facilities, including the IsoLab with its 3 ultra-low noise laboratories, the Quantum Technology Centre with state-of-the-art cleanroom facilities, our Ultra-Low Temperature Laboratories have created some of the coldest temperatures ever measured and more.
